The Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention & Visitors Bureau's public relations program is designed to assist writers and media who need quick access to information and travel-related resources. The press releases, facts about the area and images provided online are just the beginning. Quick response is given to specific needs of travel writers, reporters and editors. Images, story ideas, fact checks, interviews and tours are available upon request.

Writers, who have confirmed assignments or are planning media tours to Galena and Jo Daviess County, are invited to contact the Bureau to arrange visits. The Bureau offers a wide range of support services from supplying recommendations and contacts for attractions and activities to coordinating hour-by-hour itineraries of the Galena and Jo Daviess County experience.

History springs to life at Galena’s Greenwood Cemetery.
GALENA, Ill. – Nine former residents of Galena will present their riveting stories in live theatre format on Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, at Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, IL. Guided 75-minute tours will step out every 20 minutes between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society’s 17th annual Cemetery Walk. An indoor “seated” performance at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, will be held at Grace Episcopal Church.

Celebrate the 4th with Shenandoah’s ‘Star Spangled Rodeo’
GALENA, Ill. – There will be lots of cowboy boots, hats, spurs, hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls, horses, bulls and plenty of family-fun thundering into Galena, IL for the annual Star Spangled Shenandoah Pro Rodeo. The rodeo consists of two performances of exciting action on July 2nd and 3rd at the Shenandoah Riding Center, 200 N. Brodrecht Rd., Galena, at 7:30pm both evenings. Starry skies, folklore storytelling combine for a magical evening

Grant, should be remembered annually with a birthday celebration. Galena welcomes Ulysses S. Grant Association Annual meeting will be held from May 6-8 in historic Galena, Illinois GALENA, Ill. – While he did not live in Galena long, Ulysses S. Grant considered it his home town during the most momentous times of his life. In July of 1865, upon being gifted the Grant Memorial Home on Bouthillier Street, he said of Galena, “I hope to retain my residence here…I expect to cast my vote here always.” The Grant Home and a number of historic Grant and Civil War-related attractions will be showcased for members of the Ulysses S. Grant Association (USGA) at their annual meeting, May 6-8, in Galena, Illinois. The public is invited to participate in a variety of events as well.

Galena to commemorate Civil War sesquicentennial Special events honor 150th anniversary April 12, 15-17 GALENA, Ill. – Today children climb upon it and peer down its empty tube, but 150 years ago the Blakely Rifle was a fearsome weapon used with deadly accuracy in the Confederate assault upon the federal troops at Fort Sumter. The bombardment heralded the start of a four-year battle to preserve the Union. How it came to be in Grant Park will be one of many stories told at the Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society’s Grant Birthday Weekend and Civil War Sesquicentennial commemoration April 12, 15-17, 2011 at various locations in Galena.
